The Power Of Forgiveness

I don’t think there is one person walking this earth who hasn’t been betrayed by someone. It could have been a lover, friend, colleague or even a family member. We have all been overcome by the feelings of sadness or rage when this happens. For some though, this experience can be so crippling that they live their whole life dictated by it. They never get over the hurt or energetically release that person from themselves. I have seen those wounds of hatred develop and form so deeply that they eat away at people. Sometimes until it makes them sick, and other times sadly, until it kills them.

Forgiving a person is not just forgiving the person that harmed you, it’s allowing yourself to be free of them. The guides through my beautiful friend Paul Selig say “When there is an incident in your life that has caused you pain, and you hold it in memory in service to protect you from future pain, you have aligned to pain.” The guides through Paul also say “You can’t be the light and hold another in darkness, as soon as you hold them in darkness you can adjoin them there”.

I have had times in my life, mostly when I was starting out in the workplace, where I was treated terribly. I was younger then and too scared to stand up for myself, thinking that it was ‘normal’. I look back at those moments now (some of which I had held onto for years) and they fill me with wisdom. Those incidents became some of my greatest teachers. I have learnt to let go of the ill feelings I’d had towards certain people, and know that as I do that I’m liberating myself in the process, and allowing myself to be free.

There is no power in holding hatred in your heart for anyone or anything, the only person who suffers is you. So I ask this of you…tonight when you go to bed, try something a spiritual guide once taught me. Think of all the people in your life who you love, who are sick and who have caused you harm. Imagine them with beautiful white and pink light around them and send them love. Then let them go, both in your mind’s eye and your heart. By doing this simple act you are creating positive energy, good karma, and by sending out love you will be simultaneously giving back to yourself.

Do this for several nights, then note if you experience or feel any changes. I would love to hear about them in the comments below
